Basketball 101

Yesterday I went to play basketball with Wei Qi (damn zai guy), Boh Jun, CYY, Andrew Lee for a while and a 11 year old guy called Zi Jie after Andrew left.

Round 1: CYY and Me vs Bobo and Andrew

Result: 8 to 10 loss if I'm not mistaken.

Round 2: Wei Qi v.s Bobo, CYY, Andrew and Sheldon

Result: Loss (horribly)

Round 3: Us + Andrew v.s Some group of adults

Result: Draw (I think)

Round 4: CYY and Me (Andrew left by this point) v.s 4-5 kids (they were from 9-11 years old I think.)

Result: Win for CYY and me of course...

The next part was damn funny. There was a girl there around 7-9 years old (she looks like 7 to me but bobo said she was 9). The regulars at the basketball court called her crazy girl. At first I wondered why. Well I got my answer soon enough...

After they scored the first ball (We went easy on them...) the girl turned to me, flashed an L at me and called me a sucker!

That impertinent little brat!!

I scored 2 layups after that cause I was slightly miffed.

CYY damn poor thing leh...

He ran all over the place and played until damn hiong, and yet he was still jacked by the little girl and her kid brother...

I also got jacked lah, but I wasn't playing until so hiong... I didn't even run unless I was doing a layup.

Then Boh Jun and 2 more people came in.

Round 5: Bobo, CYY and Me v.s 5-6 people

This time, after bobo scored, the little girl (a.k.a "crazy girl") pointed the middle finger at him and said ji b_i (hokkien explertive translated as a woman's reproductive organ).

I dare say! Kids these days are imprudent little rascals...

YY pointed it back at her lah, but she had already walked off...

Okay, next match.

Round 6: Bobo and CYY v.s Zi Jie (the 11 year old kid) and Me

Result: 5 to 1 loss for us >.<

Not bad lah, at least I scored at least once in all of the matches...

Okay, that's it. Bye...

View of a 2-3ian

Hi guys.

Today I'm gonna talk about class spirit.
[ Disclaimer: Do not read the content below if you get pissed of easily. Tks]

But not in the traditional sense.

Enough has been said about how we lack it, that's fair enough.

But now I'm gonna say: The ppl who complain the most are also guilty sometimes (no offense intended to anyone)

People, class spirit is not all about the warm fuzzy feeling you get when your classmate gives up his last stick of satay to you.

I daresay it's not even about the over-hyped sense of brotherhood.

No.

While these things may be well and good, the truth is that they, like passion in a marriage, make up an oh-so-small component of "class spirit" that is unfortunately always the focal point of everyones attention.

If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. Similarily, if you want class spirit, you need to put in some effort. On this point, much credit is due to the chairmen, past and present (Jun Sheng, You Xin, Dylan, Darren) and even people like Boh Jun and Cher Han, but the truth of the matter is that too few other people played their part, myself included, far too many times.

Now when say play your part, I don't mean just organising homecoming, barbacueing food or taking everyone's orders for mac. Those were spirited enterprises, that there's no denying. But being actively involved in class affairs is only one side to a two sided coin.

So what's the second part you ask?
It's about tolerence, understanding and empathy.

If we had put in effort to be more accomodating and to understand why our fellow classmates did what they did, I truly believe that 2-3 could have been a 2-4.

I'm a fine one to speak, considering my past transgressions against Nic. But no one's perfect. At least I have only one true enemy in 2-3 and possibly cat high and that's not half bad.

Look, the point that I'm trying to make is that true friendship, brotherhood and "class spirit" can only exist with the finer aspects that maturity brings, aspects like those I have earlier stated.

At this point you may be shaking your haed and thinking "Well, this is typical of Sheldon; lofty ideals that can't be achieved because barely 10 people in 2-3 can't even pay attention for 5 secs much less empathize or whatnot..."

Well you are right. In fact this is precisely the point. It is because few people in 2-3 are capable or willing to do what I have said, that those who are capable of this must work even harder at it, not become embitternd by the fact that the others don't seem to appreciate your efforts or help you in your endevours.

So now as I reach the end of my rant, and you reach the end of your time as a 2-3ian, please take some time to think about what 2-3 has done for you, but more importantly, what you have done for 2-3. "Ask not what your [class] can do for you, but what you can do for your [class]"

At this point I would also like to apologise to anyone whom I have irritated, annoyed or pissed of during my time in 2-3and I sincerely hope that you will accept this apology and not take whatever I did to heart. I also know that I did not do everything that I could have to help out around the class and I apologise for that too.

Alright, this is the end. Bye.

Wine

Hi people.

What are you doing with your time?

I spent my day today clearing up my room -___-

All my sec 1 and 2 stuff was cleared out today.

I saw a lot of old stuff that means a lot to me...

For example, I saw the copy of "Dead Poets Society" worksheet that Mrs Lim gave us.

I didn't really understand it when I first saw it, but now it holds a lot of meaning for me.

And my sec 1 mid-term Mastery Review.

The 1st paper I ever came so close to failing.

And I spent the rest of my day reading about wines ;)

I think this will make me a more cultured person (not that I'm old enough to drink...).

But I've kinda forgotten most of what i've read >.<

Ah well, you live you learn.

Bye for now!

Review

Every once in a while, we need to reflect on where our life is going and what has changed for us.

I’m gonna do that now and see who and what has changed me since I came to 1-3 and then 2-3.

1) You Xin
You are a seriously nice guy! Kind and gentle and very humble. You have made me more confident that being modest and unassuming is the best way to go. You are the most gracious person that it has been my honor to know.

2) Ong Jun Sheng
Dude, you are brutally honest. It hurts even after you get used to it, but your feedback has, I believe, made me a slightly better person. I have come to appreciate your candor as I belive many other people have. You can be very mature when you want to, or at least one of the most mature sec 2 that I know of… It’s been a pleasure making your acquaintance ;)

3) Chee Kiang
You have been my best friend as well as my greatest competitor. You pushed me to the best I could achieve. We’ve had some fun times together and I hope most sincerely that we will be in the same class next year too. You have a lot of potential even if you don’t know it.

4) Cher Han
You are a scheming and manipulative little weasel but you are also my good friend. Don’t know how this happened but I am grateful to have had a friend like you. You have taught me to be more cautious about people, to never underestimate anyone. I took the threat you posed to lightly and I paid the price.

5) Wei Liang and Boh Jun
You jokers taught me to play basketball! (Not that you did a fantastic job or anything, my shooting still stinks…) Seriously though, you taught me, in tandem with JS to lighten up and have a little fun. I’m still not too good at it as JS will testify but I’m trying XD

Disclaimer: the next two are not from 2-3 but they are no less appreciated.

6) Xie Nan Zheng
I have never been so completely outclassed in my entire life. Be it in basketball or debate or in any other field, you make me try my best so I can at least match you. But whenever I seem to make a breakthrough, you always surpass me yet again… Good job anyway and keep it up.

7) Pan Hao Zhe
I really appreciate your warmth and hospitality (ask me if you want to know what I’m talking about, I don’t want to type it out, lazy lah…)

Alright, that’s all for now folks.

Bye.
